Walk-in showers and tub-to-shower conversions
The most common request we get is to replace a tub nobody uses with a walk-in shower. It's easier to step into and leaves room for a bench or a second shower head. We slope the shower pan to the drain, set a low curb or a curbless entry where the framing allows, and build recessed niches between the studs.
Keeping a tub? We can re-tile the surround floor to ceiling, add a niche and a mosaic band, and update the trim without moving any plumbing.
Tile and shower waterproofing
Tile and grout are not waterproof on their own. On every shower we build, the walls and pan get a continuous waterproofing membrane before the first tile goes up, either a sheet system like Schluter-style membranes or a liquid-applied RedGard-type coating, with sealed seams, corners, niches, and valve penetrations.

Bathrooms in older Montgomery County and Philadelphia homes
Many bathrooms we open up are in homes built between the 1920s and the 1970s, from stone colonials in Lower Providence to rowhomes in Norristown and Northeast Philadelphia. Behind the old tile we often find galvanized or cast-iron drain lines, subfloors softened by small leaks, and fans venting into the attic.

Permits for a bathroom remodel
Replacing tile, a vanity, or a toilet in the same spot usually doesn't need a permit. Relocating plumbing, adding circuits, or changing framing usually does, through your township's building department or Philadelphia L&I inside the city. When one is required, we pull it and schedule the inspections.
What drives the cost of a bathroom remodel
Same-size bathrooms can land far apart on price. The biggest factors:
- Moving fixtures. Keeping the toilet, vanity, and shower drain where they are is the biggest saver.
- Shower vs. tub. A custom tiled walk-in shower with a built pan and glass costs more than a re-tiled tub surround.
- Tile choice and pattern. Large-format porcelain, mosaics, and herringbone take more labor per square foot than straight-lay subway tile.
- What's behind the walls. Rotted subfloor or old drain lines add time and material.
